IPAF Operator: Classroom

This course enables delegates to become competent to drive MEWPs safely and in the correct manner. Upon successful completion, delegates will be issued with an IPAF PAL card that is recognised by the HSE, CITB, HAE and the Major Contractors Group (MCG). It also satisfies the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and the PUWER regulations 1998.

Our IPAF Operator courses instruct how to prepare and safely use various types of access platforms, including scissor and boom lifts. You will be trained in the correct operation of the equipment, how to carry out a pre-inspection, emergency descent operations as well as being given an understanding of employers and employees responsibilities.  
 
SELECTING THE CORRECT IPAF CATEGORIES
We can deliver IPAF training on a range of categories for you. 3a category is mobile scisssor, known as scissor lift. 3b catgeoyr is mobile boom, known as a cherry picker. 1b category is static boom, known as spider lift, van mount or truck mount. STRUCTURE OF THE DAY
Upon arrival delegates will be introduced to the instructor, shown around the facilities and complete registration paperwork. The morning will be spent in the classroom completing the theory element of the course. A pre-theory assessment paper is carried out to gauge understanding and identify knowledge gaps. Following the theory element, a final assessment paper is completed and delegates must pass this to move on to the practical element. The practical element is carried out in the afternoon, consisting of demonstrations, practice time and then practical assessment.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Anyone who operates a mobile elevating work platform requires a PAL card and this must be renewed every 5 years. Over 90,000 MEWP operators are trained every year worldwide through IPAF’s network of approved training centres, of which GTAccess is one.

E-LEARNING OPTION

CITB GRANT FUNDING
This course qualifies for Tier 2 CITB Grant funding of £140.

CITB EMPLOYER NETWORK FUNDING

CERTIFICATION
The Powered Access License card (PAL), that is given upon passing the course, is recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Major Contractors Group (MCG) and is valid for 5 years. 

OPTIONAL EXTRAS
A physical IPAF card is not included as standard, but can be included for a small fee. For just £10, you can upgrade from a digital card to a physical card. Physical cards will be sent via recorded delivery.

For the 3b and 1b category, a harness is required. You can purchase a new harness and lanyard from GTA, provided on the day of training, for £75. Alternatively, you can hire a harness and lanyard from GTA for £20.

Harness training is covered within the IPAF course, but not specified on your PAL card as a category. You can add a specific IPAF Harness User license to your IPAF Operator course, delivered on the same day. As a bolt-on to the Operator course, the cost is reduced from £120 to £60.

REQUIREMENTS
Delegates should be physically fit and able to bring along safety shoes, hard hat and gloves for the practical part of the training. A full body safety harness with adjustable restraint lanyard and proof of inspection within the last 12 months must be brought with the delegate on the day of training for 1b and 3b categories. 

REASONABLE ADJUSTMENTS
If a candidate has literacy difficulties, GTAcces must be informed prior to the course taking place so that additional provisions can be made. Candidates who have difficulty understand the English language can provide an interpreter. 

REFRESHMENTS
Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day on all courses at all of our training centres.  Please note that lunch is not provided.

CANCELATION POLICY
Courses cancelled less than 7 days prior to the course date but exceeding 48 working hours will incur a 50% charge. Courses cancelled less than 48 working hours before the course date will incur full payment. GT Access Ltd, reserves the right to cancel a training course at any time due to unforeseen circumstances. Should a course be cancelled alternative dates will be offered or a full refund given.

IPAF Training

We offer a full range of IPAF courses including, Operator training, Harness Safety training, MEWP's for Managers and IPAF Demonstrator and Load/Unload. Our IPAF Operator courses are run 5 days a week (including some weekends) across all 12 of our training centres. Trainees will be issued with a PAL card upon completion that is valid for 5 years.
